Le format paysage du catalogue résonne avec la thématique de l’exposition: le jardin envisagé par les artistes modernes et contemporains comme territoire d’expérimentation. Sur la jaquette de l’ouvrage, une photographie ancienne du jardin de Giverny est reproduite dans un spectre coloré «plus vert que vert». Le titre apparait dans des découpes dont les formes ont été récupérées et jetées dans l’ouvrage, à la manière d’un herbier pop. Les aplats de couleurs (lumineuses, terreuses, végétales) qui patinent le papier offset, servent d’écrin aux textes et images. Elles rythment l’alternance entre les différentes parties du livre, et distinguent notamment les essais qui le ponctuent.

The use of a landscape format for the catalogue chimes with the theme of the exhibition: gardens as seen by modern and contemporary artists as areas for experimentation. The dust jacket of the book shows an old photograph of the garden at Giverny reproduced in a ghostly green, “greener than green”. The title appears through holes cut in the dust jacket, the cut-outs being preserved and placed between the pages of the book as in a flower press. The plain background colours (luminous, earthy, vegetable) applied to the offset paper act as a screen for the texts and images. They indicate the different parts of the book and, in particular, point to the essays that punctuate the book.
