Ce livre, publié à l’occasion d’une exposition monographique, présente des travaux de l’artiste Jérémy Demester. Celui-ci, qui se revendique comme peintre gitan, travaille sur des médiums très variés et collabore souvent avec d’autres au sein d’une grande famille qu’il nomme La Demestria. La série de gravures présentée dans l’ouvrage, qu’il a initiée lorsqu’il était adolescent, est reproduite dans un bleu identique aux épreuves originales. L’aplat coloré qui les entoure, légèrement verdâtre, crée un effet de contraste lumineux et les rend flottantes. Les matières, couleurs et registres typographiques éclectiques de l’ouvrage oscillent entre alchimie et vernaculaire, en écho au positionnement de l’artiste.

This book appeared on the occasion of a solo exhibition devoted to works by the artist Jérémy Demester. Describing himself as a gypsy painter, he works in a wide variety of mediums, often in collaboration with others in a wide circle of friends he calls La Demestria. Begun when he was still a teenager, the series of engravings presented in this book is reproduced in a blue identical with that of the original proofs. The surrounding page surface, slightly greenish in colour, creates an effect of luminous contrast, the images seeming to float in it. The materials, colours and eclectic typographical registers used in the book suggest now alchemy, now something more down-to-earth, reflecting aspects of the artist himself.
