Pour ma première expérience dans l’image animée, j’ai eu le plaisir de créer une bande-annonce pour l’illustre opéra Tosca de Puccini. La narration graphique est centrée sur un élément fondamental de l’histoire: au début de l’Acte 1, Tosca pénètre dans l’église de Sant’Andrea della Valle à Rome pour y rejoindre son amant, le peintre Cavaradossi, et mue par la jalousie, elle lui demande de remplacer les yeux bleus du portrait qu’il est entrain de peindre, par des yeux noirs (comme ses yeux). La forme centrale de l’œil subit ici des métamorphoses hypnotiques: son iris passe du bleu au noir, puis une rose fleurit tout autour. La pupille, l’iris, puis l’œil sont ensuite progressivement inondés de rouge, à l’image de la tension dramatique et de l’issue fatale de l’histoire…

For my first foray into moving images, I had the pleasure of designing a trailer for the famous Puccini opera Tosca. The graphics focus on one of the story’s central elements: at the beginning of Act 1, Tosca comes to find her lover, the painter Cavaradossi, in the church of Sant’Andrea della Valle in Rome. In a fit of jealousy, she asks him to make the blue eyes of the portrait he is painting dark like her eyes. The centre of the eye here undergoes hypnotic changes, the iris metamorphosing from blue to black as pink shapes resembling a gothic rose window form around it. The pupil, iris and then the whole eye are gradually flooded with red, echoing the dramatic tension and tragic ending of the story…
