Contribution écrite et visuelle, parue dans l’ouvrage ABC con fantasia, publié à la suite d’une journée d’étude à l’Institut national d’histoire de l’art, à l’invitation de Victor Guégan et du Centre national des arts plastiques. Je me suis replongée dans l’atelier de mise en page et d’impression des Éditions Comp’Act, au sein duquel j’ai passé mon enfance, dans les années 80 à Seyssel. Le porte-vue, un lutin retrouvé dans une grange, est le seul témoignage photographique de mes parents, Emmanuelle et Jean-Luc Mellier (respectivement graphiste et imprimeur), au travail. Ils travaillaient alors dans cette maison d’édition fondée par mon grand-père Henri Poncet, sa compagne Annette Colliot-thélène et ma mère. Mon texte rend hommage à ces ouvriers du livre, qui m’ont transmis le goût de l’encre d’imprimerie. Il rend aussi compte de la mutation de la chaîne graphique dans cette période charnière qui précède sa dématérialisation, et de l’imbrication étroite entre la création et les outils du design éditorial.

This written and visual contribution featured in the book ABC con fantasia, published following a study day at the Institut national d’histoire de l’art national at the invitation of Victor Guégan and the Centre national des arts plastiques. I revisited the Éditions Comp’Act design and printing studio in Seyssel, the place where I grew up in the 1980s. A display book, found in a barn, is the only photographic record of my parents, Emmanuelle and Jean-Luc Mellier (a graphic designer and a printer respectively), at work. At the time, they were working at this publishing house founded by my grandfather Henri Poncet, his partner Annette Colliot-Thélène and my mother. My text pays tribute to these book workers who passed on to me their love of printing ink. It also reflects the transformation of the publishing process during this pivotal period leading up to its digitisation, and the close connection between creativity and the tools of editorial design.
