Cette collection littéraire inédite, éditée par la Réunion des Musées Nationaux, créé un pont audacieux entre art et littérature, en invitant des auteurs reconnus à écrire un texte en écho à une exposition. Ainsi, les deux premiers ouvrages mettent en regard Zoé Valdés et Gaugin, et Philippe Forest et Rubens. Le format des livres, le papier bouffant, et les pleins et déliés de la typographie Didot confèrent d’emblée à l’ouvrage un visage littéraire. Les pages de garde, qui présentent des œuvres sur papier couché, contrebalancent cet effet et miment un extrait (miniature) de catalogue d’art. La gamme colorée des accessoires du livre (signet, tranchefile, fond coloré des gardes) est choisie en lien avec l’artiste. La couleur du texte est contaminée, au fil des premières pages, par le noir qui s’inscrit dans les habitudes de lecture de ce genre d’ouvrage.

This new collection of essays, published by Réunion des Musées Nationaux, establishes a daring link between art and literature, inviting well-known authors to write texts inspired by particular exhibitions. The first two publications feature Zoé Valdés and Gaugin and Philippe Forest and Rubens. The format of the books, the bulky paper and the thick and thin strokes of the Didot typeface immediately suggest that they are literary works. Acting as a counterbalance to this appearance and mimicking a (miniature) extract from an art catalogue, the endsheets present images of paintings on coated paper. The range of colours used for the various elements of the book (headband, bookmark, background colour of the end papers) is chosen in consultation with the painter. The coloured lettering of the first few pages then gives way to black, as is generally the rule for text in this kind of work.
